Browsers, text editors and other applications allow you to make fonts bigger or smaller by changing settings in those applications. You may need to increase font size while working on a business spreadsheet on a small monitor or decrease font size while reviewing information on the Web. One way to change the font size in all applications on your computer is to make a quick adjustment in your Windows Control Panel. Windows does not give you the ability to specify specific font sizes, but you can make them larger and smaller.
1.Click the Windows Start button and then click 'Control Panel.'
2.
Click 'Appearance and Personalization,' then click 'Adjust Screen Resolution.' Windows displays the Screen Resolution screen that allows you to adjust your computer's space display.
3.Click 'Make Text and Other Items Larger or Smaller.' You will see three radio buttons labeled 'Smaller - 100% (Default),' 'Medium - 125%' and 'Larger - 150%.'
4.Click one of these radio buttons to change your display's font to the desired size.
5.Click 'Apply.' You must close your applications and restart Windows to see the new font sizes. You can do that immediately or wait until another time when it's convenient to shut down windows.
Tips
- You can also adjust your screen's resolution by returning to the Screen Resolution screen and clicking the 'Resolution' drop-down box. This drop-down box displays various resolutions such as 1024 x 768 and 800 x 600. After selecting the desired resolution, click 'OK' to apply the new resolution.
- You will not see the 'Larger - 150%' option on the display screen if your monitor does not support resolutions that are equal to or greater than 1200 x 900 pixels.
- If you'd like to enlarge on-screen text temporarily, you can use the built-in Magnifier tool. Click 'Start,' type 'Magnifier' and then click the 'Magnifier' icon when you see it. A small window appears at the top of your screen. When you move your mouse over any text on your screen, you will see a magnified version of that text in the window at the top of the screen. The Magnifier comes in handy when a Web page or document has fonts that are too small to see. Simply launch the Magnifier window and move it around the text to read it clearly. Close the window by clicking the 'X' button in the window's upper-right corner.

Note: Depending on which text editor you're pasting into, you might have to add the italics to the site name.
You can make the text and other things like icons larger in Windows 10. You can choose to resize everything in one fell swoop or temporarily resize with the Magnifier. You can also just change the text size for certain items without affecting anything else. We'll show you.
Resize everything
1. Right-click on desktop and select Display settings.
2. Use the slider to change the size of text, app, and other items. It might be set to 150% by default. Dragging the slider to right increases the size, while dragging it to the left decreases the size.
3. Tap or click the Apply button. A window pops up to let you know that signing out of Windows and signing back in is recommended.
Magnifier
If you want to temporarily enlarge a portion of the screen, use the built-in Magnifier. You can quickly open it by using the keyboard shortcut Windows key and the plus sign (+) to zoom in and minus sign (-) to zoom out. Use Windows key and Esc to exit the magnifier.
Change only the text size
If you don't want to change the size of everything on desktop, it's possible to just change the text size for these specific items:
- Title bars
- Menus
- Message boxes
- Palette titles
- Icons
- Tooltips
Here's how to do it:
1. Right-click on desktop and select Display settings.
2. Scroll down and tap or click Advanced display settings
3. Scroll down and tap or click Advanced sizing of text and other items
4. Select the item you want to change in the drop-down list and choose the text size. You also check the box to make it bold.
Preference
It's great that we have these options available to change the size of text, apps, and other items in Windows 10, but we've mostly stayed with the default settings in our PC. Have you changed anything with your display settings? Let us know in the comments!
